Comments:I just finished reading your article "O Canada". It's refreshing to note your enjoyable experience and positive words in reference to Manitoban's. Having been raised in a small farming community in the Norther Interlake Region of Manitoba, I've come to know the generous and kind people of this province and am proud to say I'm Manitoban. Hope you and your family will visit again soon!

Comments:hi. i just read the "jediknight" article in the recent Puget sound Computer Users paper (12/24/01). i dig where you were coming from w/ the mesg.
to wit, many humans seem satisfied to just let the "dark side" forces take control of the environment in which we all exist in/of. in the Lucas film "Return of the Jedi", the Evil Emperor insists that Luke Skywalker let all the *bad* feelings guide his power and ability; hate (for his father 'Darth Vader'), contempt for liberty/life (starting fights for no reason), and self-pity (having had his hand lopped off earlier in his jedi struggles) are among some of the ill-feelings that he experienced and that the emperor hoped would be called out of the young jedi by the young jedi.
guided by the forces of the "ego", a certain percentage of humans around the world--more importantly, here in the US--seem all too willing to be led "over to the darkside" by the insistence, on the part of the authorities, that they let their anger, rage and frustrations, flow and feed that part of them that bests serves the empire of evil.
strangely enough, i notice that some people are actually seeming rather "invigorated" by the renewed sense of patriotism, as well as the effort that it is supportive of and that's the continued repression/oppression of the so-called "rogue 3rd-world nation-states." people actually seem to feel good that anybody--somebody, EVERYBODY--is being bombed, harassed, killed by the *good guys* government/military forces, both at home and abroad.
there is fervor for the censorship of dissent (thank you NPR). for instance--when i was working security in a downtown $eattle building during the first WTO protests, a building client was leaving for the day and as he came off the elevator he gleefully chanted "More WTO! More WTO!" i asked him was he crazy and he just got quiet and moved on.
the fact that people were getting their asses beat just because they were battling the wickedness of global corporate influence did not seem to affect certain people; indeed, it seems--as it always has throughout human history--that some relish the pain that others, termed "troublemakers", are put through by the powers-that-think-they-be PP3TB).
since the ego is focused mainly on "I", the PP3TB have been informed by their "experts" that by getting the egotistical individuals en mass to focus on the I of 'the nation', their evil force can be harnessed to bring said civilian population over to the darkside. feeding the selfish fears and desires of the person help to ensure such a transition.
as well, just as in biblical/holy text, a supremely tempting and evil force--Satan, the devil--was able to manipulate the person's ego and cause for chaos and needless environmental (especially social) destruction.
as i complete this rant, i'd like to add that as Luke resisted the temptations of the darkside, he affirmed that the actions that would have brought him to the darkside were unnecessary and counterproductive for the general environment--so he wasn't just thinking selfishly (he was also there to "save" his father, to win him--Annakin--back over to the side of *good*). this is what people/potential jedis might need to do: start thinking and acting a little more selflessly.
in the least, understand that one can be a little less self-centered and give greater consideration to the natural order/environment in general.
take care--it's free

Just wanted to say "Thanks" for the support on your WEB site. I just now read your comments about me and Sid Hartman. Sid was trying desperately to interview me after the story ran. I kept refusing because he had called me several not-so-nice names for several days. Anyway I finally told my lawyer, Jim Lord, that I would agree to go on the air LIVE with Sid. That way the listeners could decide whom to believe instead of letting Sid decide. Guess what? I never heard from Sid again! Anyway, just wanted to let you know you were RIGHT ON! Thanks again.

Comments:Mike, it has been a revelation to use "why teams don't work" over the last few years. As a trainer I have constantly recommended your book to individuals and organisations. I have sold that many I even thought about writing to you for some sort of commission!
I work in the strange world of English Students' Unions where the relationship between professional managers and elected student officers has always been in need of subtle encouragement to work effectively. Your book gets the tone just right, particularly for all those cynics out there. It also nicely compliments my training motto, "if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem". The re-write is excellent, although, having committed the opening paragraphs of "The People Problem" to memory as the opening speech of most of my teambuilding training courses, I am going to find it hard to change from "X is a nerd, Y is certifiable, and Z is a blowhard jerk!"
Thank you for all you stimulating thoughts.
