Prices for business posters begin at $299, depending on the poster size, number of people interviewed, and amount of travel and research involved. The easier the project, of course, the cheaper. Click on the picture below to read the story of Isidore Crystal.

What is "The Story of Your Life"?

"The Story of Your Life" is a unique gift item -- a portrait in prose, of a life well lived, by award-winning writer Michael Finley.

We create a unique art object that tells the world the story you would most like them to hear:

  • your greatest accomplishment

  • the love of your life

  • the funniest thing that ever happened to you

  • what you were like when you were young

  • who your heroes are

  • what values you most want to pass on to others

"The Story of Your Life" is a set of framed art objects -- five to a set. They are suitable for mounting in your home, office, or quarters. They are also displayed in this special online gallery.

You control what is written.

Who are portrayed in this series?

  • Individuals on special occasions -- anniversaries, birthdays, retirement.

  • Couples and groups who wish to commemorate an event or achievement.

  • Convalescents, as a reminder that the person who is ailing was not always thus.

  • Small businesses, for display in store windows and on counters.

  • The newly deceased, as part of funeral observance, and as a remembrance afterward.

What does it cost?

PERSONAL POSTERS. You can buy our simplest product, a single 12x24 inch poster, for $299. Most people like sets of larger items. A set of four framed "The Story of Your Life" 2-foot x 1-foot posters, mounted on stiff foam backing, with about 700 words of text, costs $799.

You may also purchase sets in other quantities. You may order them unframed and frame them yourself. And you can order your poster in a different dimension, bigger or smaller than than 2'X1' ... with appropriate cost adjustments.

HOW IT WORKS. It works the same way, whether you are a private client or a business client. You have to contact me, either by email or telephone. If you live in the Twin Cities, we'll come visit you. Otherwise, we have to interview you by phone.

  • First we prime the pump. You pay a $100 upfront fee. This is in case we give it our best effort, but it just doesn't work. (This has never happened, but we know it will one day.)

  • The interview: We meet and work up a story together. It doesn't have to be your entire biography. (In fact, that's impossible, unless you're only four years old.) It usually turns out to be a single story, or the relationship between you (the buyer) and the person the poster is about.

  • Pictures. You supply a favorite snapshot or photo, which we scan. Historical stuff is great. Or we can take a contemporary photo and screen it to look "nostalgic." We can use up to five pictures. One or two is usually best.

  • Then we write the story

  • Then we show it to you and we make corrections. Sometimes we start over again, from scratch. (No charge for this.)

  • When we are both sure the piece is OK, we create the final product, a famed poster. You can order as many extra copies as you like (for a charge). We show you the final product and hand you the bill, you pay us, and that's the deal.

  • NOTE: Changes made after this final stage cost money, so we have to be sure the poster is exactly the way we want it!

BOOKS & BOOKLETS

Sometimes you have a longer story to tell, or you want a gift more portable than a poster. Well, we also write custom books and booklets. We recently finished a beautiful 80-page booklet about the Lucy Idol Center in Ohio, a very special day-school for severely handicapped adults. And we created a special booklet for onetime Lincoln Del owner Danny Berenberg. To learn more about a book commemorating your family or business, email us or give us a call at 651-644-4540.

ETHICAL WILLS

An ancient tradition for passing on personal values, beliefs, blessings, and advice to relatives and to future generations. An ethical will can be more valuable to, and more valued by, one's loved ones than the worldly goods you bequeath to them.

When we do an ethical will we spend as much as two working days with a subject, talking about many things.

The document we finally create can be in a bound booklet or single-sheet scroll format.

Costs vary, from $500 to $2000. Call us at 651-644-4540. Or email us at this address.
